The Nutramare story begins with David Otto, a passionate animal nutritionist who has had a special fascination with koi and other fish since childhood. His enthusiasm led him not only to study agricultural science but also into practical work: as a feeding consultant in aquaculture and as a specialist advisor in the pet trade. There, he noticed that many commercially available koi foods did not meet the actual nutritional needs of the animals.

During his bachelor's thesis, David took the opportunity to comprehensively analyze the composition and quality of commercially available koi food. The results were alarming: none of the tested products could fully meet the fish's nutritional needs. This finding became the starting point for an ambitious goal: to develop a koi food that prioritizes the health and well-being of the animals.

David founded the Nutramare brand together with his long-time friend Sebastian Magolz. While David is responsible for scientific development, Sebastian takes care of the business and technical aspects of the company.

With an EXIST start-up grant from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the team was able to lay the foundations for Nutramare. They utilized the resources of the University of Rostock to develop their feed formulas at the highest scientific level. Supported by experts such as koi importer Dennis Seidel, they conducted breeding trials with several hundred koi to optimize the effectiveness of the feed.

David's academic focus on animal nutrition significantly influenced the development of Nutramare products. His research on plant-based performance enhancers resulted in a special herbal blend that is now included in all feed varieties and actively supports the animals' health.

Nutramare's vision demanded uncompromising implementation – from the formulation to production. To guarantee the highest standards, David worked closely with a specialized feed mill, which later created a position for him as a formulation developer and scientific advisor. This close collaboration makes it possible to develop and optimize the products directly on-site.

This collaboration also led to the development of Nutramare Aktivton, an innovative water additive created in partnership with FIM Biotech GmbH. This product underscores Nutramare's commitment to delivering the highest quality not only in animal feed but also in supplementary products.

In an industry often characterized by a lack of transparency, Nutramare takes a different approach: clarity and education. Since its founding in 2018, the company has been committed to providing hobby pet owners with understandable and scientifically sound insights into the world of animal nutrition. The goal is to empower customers to critically evaluate pet food and make informed decisions.
